About

THE YEAR 2018 WAS A YEAR OF BUILDING AND GROWTH FOR FAMILY PROMISE OF FORSYTH COUNTY. WE BEGAN THE YEAR, PARTNERING WITH AN INDIVIDUAL TO OFFER A TRANSITIONAL HOUSING OPPORTUNITY FOR A FAMILIES TO EXTEND THEIR TIME TO BE ABLE TO SAVE MONEY. AS THE YEAR PROGRESSED, WE CONTINUED TO FINE-TUNE OUR PROGRAM TO ENSURE THAT FAMILIES ENTERING OUR PROGRAM WERE GAINING THE SKILLS NEEDED TO TRULY BECOME SUSTAINABLY INDEPENDENT AND THAT PARENTS WERE ACCOUNTABLE FOR MAKING THE CHANGES NECESSARY TO REACH THAT IN ORDER TO ENSURE THEIR CHILDREN COULD EXPERIENCE LONG-TERM STABILITY. WITH THAT IN PLACE, WE HAD FOUR FAMILIES GRADUATE FROM OUR PROGRAM AND AN ADDITIONAL THREE FAMILIES EXPERIENCE SUCCESSFUL SEPARATION FROM OUR PROGRAM MEANING THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO SECURE HOUSING THROUGH OUR SUPPORTS AND HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY/REQUIREMENT TO SAVE MONEY, THOUGH THEY DID NOT COMPLETE ALL GOALS TOWARD GRADUATION. THE BIGGEST STEP FOR OUR ORGANIZATION WAS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF OUR DAYCENTER. THROUGH OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH AREA CONGREGATIONS AND HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS, WE PROVIDE THE FAMILIES WITH A PLACE TO STAY AND MEALS, AS WELL AS PROVIDING TRANSPORTATION AND CHILDCARE AS NEEDED. THIS NEW DAYCENTER ALLOWED US TO FORMALIZE THE PROGRAM EVEN MORE AS MENTIONED ABOVE AND ALSO PROVIDED A SAFE PLACE FOR FAMILIES TO BE DURING THE DAY WHEN NOT WORKING OR AT SCHOOL, TO MEET WITH OUR CASE MANAGER OR MENTORS, AND TO COMPLETE BASIC NEED TASKS SUCH AS LAUNDRY AND SHOWERS. AS OF THE END OF 2018, 100% OF ALL GRADUATES HAD MAINTAINED SUSTAINABLE INDEPENDENCE FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS POST GRADUATION AND REMAINED STABLE AT YEAR END.
