About
ALMA PROVIDES ITS SERVICES EXCLUSIVELY TO THE COMMUNITY OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF PUERTO RICO. PUERTO RICO IS SLOWLY RECOVERING FROM THE DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF HURRICANE MARIA THAT MADE A LANDFALL IN PUERTO RICO ON SEPTEMBER 20TH OF 2017. IN ADDITION TO THE DAMAGES TO THE LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE CAUSED BY SAID UNFORTUNATE EVENT, APPROXIMATELY 200,000 RESIDENTS OF PUERTO RICO HAVE MOVED TO THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES SINCE ITS OCCURRENCE. THIS SITUATION HAS LIMITED ALMA'S EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019 CONDUCTED BY THE SAN JUAN OFFICE. DURING THIS PERIOD, ALMA CONTINUED ITS PROGRAMS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OF PUERTO RICO PROVIDING SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS TO STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF AT: ESCUELA SUPERIOR TRINA PADILLA DE SANZ IN SAN JUAN, ESCUELA SUPERIOR SALVADOR BRAU IN CAROLINA, ESCUELA SEGUNDA UNIDAD JESUS T PINERO IN CARIOLINA, ESCUELA SUPERIOR VOCACIONAL ANTONIO REYES PADILLA IN UTUADO, ESCUELA SUPERIOR VOCACIONAL THOMAS G UNGAY IN BAYAMON, ESCUELA SUPERIOR MARGARITA JANER IN GUAYNABO. APROXIMATELY 380 STUDENTS PLUS TEACHERS AND STAFF MEMBERS ATTENDED ALMA'S SEMINARS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. EDUCATIONAL FAIRS WERE ALSO CONDUCTED DURING THIS PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC AND EMPLOYEES AND STAFF OF: HOTEL CONDADO VANDERBILT IN SAN JUAN, THERMO FISHER SCIENTIFIC IN MANATI, HOTEL LA CONCHA IN SAN JUAN, TWO EVENTS AT UP BRIGHT COACHING IN CUPEY, PROGRAMA DE ASUNTOS A LA MUJER IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CARLINA, JETBLUE STATION AT THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LUIS MUNOZ MARIN, CENTRO SOR ISOLINA FERRE IN CANOVANAS, WITH AN ATTENDANCE OF MORE THAN 400 PEOPLE. APPROXIMATELY 3,400 CONSUMERS IN PUERTO RICO CONTACTED THE CORPORATION AND RECEIVED CREDIT COUNSELING ORIENTATION, AND APPROXIMATELY 5,000 CONSUMERS ACCESSED THE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS POSTED IN ALMA'S INTERNET WEB SITE DURING THIS PERIOD.
