TRAILS AND PATHWAYS: ADVOCATING FOR THE EXPANSION OF MULTIMODAL NETWORKS AND PROMOTING THE USE OF DELAWARE'S OUTDOOR RESOURCES IS AT THE CORE OF OUR TRAILS AND PATHWAYS PROGRAM. A SNAPSHOT OF OUR WORK IN 2018, WE PARTICIPATED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WILMINGTON, NEW CASTLE COUNTY AND STATEWIDE BICYCLE POLICY PLANS. COORDINATED THE WORK OF THE FUTURE TRAILS OF NORTHERN DELAWARE COALITION ON PRIORITY TRAIL PROJECTS; BRANDYWINE HERITAGE TRAIL, COMMONS BOULEVARD PATHWAY, AUGUSTINE CUT-OFF TRAIL, CLAYMONT TO FOX POINT STATE PARK AND THE NEWPORT WATER TRAIL. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHERS EXECUTED A SUCCESSFUL TRAILFEST EVENT BRINGING MORE THAN 2,000 PEOPLE TO THE CELEBRATION OF THE GRAND OPENING OF THE JACK A. MARKELL TRAIL (JAM). (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O:)REMAINED A STAKEHOLDER IN THE GEORGETOWN TO LEWES TRAIL PROJECT IN EASTERN SUSSEX COUNTY AND PARTNERED WITH BRANDYWINE CONSERVANCY ON THE BRANDYWINE CREEK GREENWAY PROJECT. PROVIDED A FIX-IT STATION TO SUPPORT CYCLISTS AT THE DUPONT ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER AND THE JAM TRAIL. IN 2018 THE DELAWARE GREENWAYS BOARD APPROVED EIGHT STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR FOCUS THROUGH 2021. (1) CREATE A VISION AND NEW MISSION FOR DGI (2) INCREASE DGI'S ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY (3) DEVELOP A FUTURE FOR PENN FARM APART FROM DGI (4) INCREASE USE OF EXISTING TRAILS AND PATHWAYS (5) DEVELOP NEW TRAILS AND PATHWAYS (6) INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF DGI AND ITS WORK (7) DEVELOP A PLAN FOR LONG-TERM FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND (8) GROW AND PRESERVE SCENIC BYWAYS.
