Since its inception in 1981, Stop Children's Cancer has raised over $8 million, including the Bonnie's Legacy Endowment Fund which has approximately $1 million in perpetuity. In addition, as a result of these donations, well in excess of $20 million in national cancer institute/national institute of health (NIH) grants have been awarded. Research funding includes: development of small molecule anti-leukemia drugs for children; activating p53 and antagonizing MDM2 and MDM4 by adenovirus E18 as a novel strategy for treating neuroblastoma; and the zinc finger transcription factor slug and its associated histone demethylase in acute B cell lymphoblastic leukemia. In addition: a grant to the University of Florida Foundation, fund #F017761, to establish the Bonnie R. Freeman clinical trials. Funds are under the direction of Dr. William B. Slayton to conduct pediatric trial programs at the University of Florida. It is the policy of Stop Children's Cancer that no monies are used to pay overhead and administrative fees of any outside organizations. No monies may be used to pay organizations engaged in fundraising or for costs incurred in obtaining grants.
