THE GIVING PLATE, INC. OPERATES AS A 501C3, CHARITABLE FOOD BANK THAT PROVIDES EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES RESIDING IN BEND, LA PINE, SISTERS, SUNRIVER, TUMALO, AND PRINEVILLE. IT IS OPEN YEAR-ROUND AND ITS HOURS OF OPERATION ARE EVERY THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. IT REMAINS THE LARGEST FOOD BANK IN THE TRI-COUNTIES OF DESCHUTES, JEFFERSON, AND CROOK. THE GIVING PLATE, INC'S THREE MAIN FOOD-RELIEF INITIATIVES ARE THE MONTHLY FOOD BOX PROGRAM, KID'S KORNER AND BACKPACKS FOR BEND. IN 2018, THE GIVING PLATE ASSISTED FOOD-INSECURE INDIVIDUALS IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: 6,354 FAMILIES WERE GIVEN OVER 545,700 POUNDS OF FOOD; 1,000 FAMILIES RECEIVED TURKEY MEALS OVER THE HOLIDAYS IN ADDITION TO THEIR FOOD BOXES; 7,208 CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 0-18 VISITED THE KID'S KORNER FOOD BANK AND RECEIVED AN AVERAGE OF 8 POUNDS OF FOOD; AND 6,898 CHILDREN WERE PROVIDED WITH WEEKEND FOOD RELIEF IN OUR NEWLY ADOPTED BACKPACKS FOR BEND PROGRAM. ALSO IN 2018, THE GIVING PLATE MADE A DRAMATIC SWITCH IN THE FOCUS OF INDIVIDUALS SERVED DUE TO ITS TWO NEW PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON CHILDHOOD HUNGER (KID'S KORNER AND BACKPACKS FOR BEND). IN OUR MONTHLY FOOD BOX PROGRAM, CHILDREN MAKE UP 36% OF THOSE SERVED.; AS AN ORGANIZATION HOWEVER, BETWEEN ALL THREE OF OUR HUNGER-RELIEF INITIATIVES, CHILDREN COMPRISE 62% OF THOSE THE GIVING PLATE SERVES. THIS BACKPACKS FOR BEND PROGRAM PROVIDES WEEKEND FOOD RELIEF TO 450 CHILDREN IN 28 BEND/LA PINE SCHOOLS TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN DO NOT GO HUNGRY OVER THE WEEKEND.
