About
WE ENVISION CREATING A BETTER FUTURE FOR SENIORS THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING WITH AGENCIES EFFECTIVELY SERVING SENIORS, CULTIVATING DONOR ENGAGEMENT, INCREASING SENIOR CIVIC PARTICIPATION, COMMUNITY ADVOCACY, INFLUENCING PUBLIC POLICY, AND TARGETED PROGRAM INTERVENTIONS. CURRENTLY OUR PRIMARY PROGRAM INTERVENTIONS PERTAIN TO "SENIOR CENTERS", "SENIOR ORPHANS AND ADVOCACY. WE DESIRE TO SEE A ROBUST AND EFFECTIVE NETWORK OF COMPREHENSIVE, SOPHISTICATED SENIOR CENTERS ACROSS SAN DIEGO THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF TODAY'S OLDER ADULTS. EACH SENIOR CENTER WOULD BE A CENTRALIZED COMMUNITY HUB FOR ALL THINGS SENIORS - FOCUSED ON THE HOLISTIC HEALTHCARE NEEDS OF SENIORS - IDENTIFYING AND SERVING "SENIOR ORPHANS" - AND PROVIDING A PLACE FOR SENIORS TO SOCIALIZE, EXERCISE, ENGAGE IN COMMUNITY ACTION, AND ACCESS CRITICAL RESOURCES. THIS MEANS ENHANCING EXISTING SENIORS CENTERS AND WHEN NECESSARY, CONSTRUCTING NEW FACILITIES. IN 2018/19, SDSCF RESEARCHED THE NATIONAL BEST PRACTICES IN MODERN, INNOVATIVE, CUTTING-EDGE SENIOR CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE NATION, AND THE LOCATION OF SENIOR CENTERS WITHIN THE SAN DIEGO REGION. WE THEN CONDUCTED AN ASSESSMENT OF THE "STATE OF SENIOR CENTERS" IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY, AND PUBLISHED A REPORT ON OUR KEY FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS. PROGRAM FUNDING WAS USED FOR THESE RESEARCH PROJECTS, AND TO LAUNCH OUR FIRST SENIOR CENTER ENHANCEMENT PROJECT. FUNDING ALSO ENABLED US TO RAISE AWARENESS IN OUR REGION OF THE PENDING DEMOGRAPHIC SHIFT IN OUR POPULATION OF SENIOR CITIZENS, AND TO BUILD SDSCF'S INITIAL CORE INFRASTRUCTURE, INCLUDING KEY COMMUNICATION MATERIALS AND A SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE PRESENCE.
