About

SEE SCHEDULE O THE FAIRVIEW BAND BOOSTERS ORGANIZATION (FBBO) IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ENTITY 501(C)3 THAT SUPPORTS THE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OF THE FAIRVIEW CONCERT, MARCHING, AND JAZZ BANDS. THE PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE FBBO ARE FUNDRAISING, FACILITATION OF EVENTS SUCH AS THE ORGANIZATION OF TRANSPORTATION TO COMPETITION VENUES, RECRUITING PARENT VOLUNTEERS TO ACT AS CHAPERONES, AND HOLDING AND ORGANIZING BAND SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. THE FBBO HAS APPROXIMATELY 50 VOLUNTEERS, MOSTLY PARENTS OF CURRENT BAND MEMBERS. NONE OF THE VOLUNTEERS RECEIVES DIRECT COMPENSATION. HOWEVER, VOLUNTEERS CAN EARN AN HOURLY 'WAGE' THAT IS APPLIED TO OFFSET WHAT IS OWED IN THE STUDENT ACCOUNT (TYPICAL AMOUNTS ARE 3.50 / HOUR). STUDENT MEMBERSHIP IN THE BANDS (MARCHING, CONCERT AND JAZZ) IS APPROXIMATELY 110; THE SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY OF FUNDRAISING IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAIRVIEW KNIGHTS MARCHING BAND (FMK), ALTHOUGH THE OTHER BANDS REQUIRE FBBO SUPPORT (~ 20% OF THE TOTAL EXPENSES). THE PRIMARY INCOME STREAMS ARE STUDENT FEES AND FUNDRAISING. STUDENT FEES ACCOUNT FOR APPROXIMATELY 40% OF THE TOTAL BAND INCOME. THE PROFIT AND LOSS STATEMENTS DETAIL THE FUNDRAISING EFFORTS, BUT THE PRIMARY SOURCES ARE THE GARAGE SALE / PEACH SALE HELD IN AUGUST OF EACH YEAR, THE OPERATION OF SPORTING EVENT CONCESSIONS WHICH TAKES PLACE THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR, THE BAND DIRECTOR'S FUNDRAISER (MARCH-A-THON) AND THE REVENUE GENERATED FROM GIFT (E.G. SCRIP) AND GROCERY CARDS (E.G. KING SOOPERS). THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SECONDARY FUNDRAISING EFFORTS, SUCH AS THE SALE OF FAIRVIEW BAND-THEMED CLOTHING AND FBBO REMUNERATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE BOLDER BOULDER. THE FBBO PAYS TAXES ON THE SALE OF FRUIT AND CONCESSION ITEMS SUCH AS HOT DOGS AND CANDY. MARCHING BAND STAFF ARE COMPENSATED IN TWO WAYS: 1) THROUGH THE BOULDER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHICH PAYS THE APPROPRIATE TAXES AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO PERA AND FOR WHICH WE REIMBURSE THE DISTRICT; 2) THROUGH FBBO PAYMENTS FOR THE DELIVERY OF 'PRODUCTS'. AN EXAMPLE OF A PRODUCT IS THE CREATION OF A DRILL SEQUENCE. BECAUSE THE FBBO DOES NOT PAY SALARIES IT DOES NOT PROVIDE W-2 FORMS TO THE STAFF. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS: 1)DURING THE 2018-2019 TAX YEAR, THE MARCHING BAND COMPETED IN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND ACHIEVED 3RD PLACE IN CLASS 5A. 2)THE JAZZ AND CONCERT BANDS ACHIEVED "SUPERIOR" RATINGS AT COLORADO BANDMASTER ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS. 3)SEVERAL JAZZ AND CONCERT STUDENTS WERE SELECTED TO THE COLORADO ALL-STATE BANDS. 4)THE MARCHING BAND USUALLY COMPETES IN 5 COMPETITIONS DURING THE FALL AND PERFORMS AT SELECTED HOME FOOTBALL GAMES. THE 2018-2019 COMPETITIONS TOOK PLACE MID-SEPTEMBER TO EARLY NOVEMBER. THE MARCHING BAND TRAVELED TO DISNEY WORLD AND UNIVERSAL STUDIOS DURING NEW YEAR 2018 WHERE THEY MARCHED IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM PARADE, AS WELL AS PARTICIPATED IN OTHER CLINICS. FMK ALSO MARCHES IN THE LIGHTS OF DECEMBER PARADE IN BOULDER EVERY YEAR. KEY FINANCIAL PLANS: DURING THE 2019-2020 TAX YEAR, THE FAIRVIEW BANDS WILL PARTICIPATE IN STATE LEVEL COMPETITIONS. THE FBBO HAS AGREED TO PAY TWO INSTRUCTORS AND ADDITIONAL SECTIONAL BREAK-OUT INSTRUCTORS. THE BOARD BELIEVES THAT MAKING THESE INVESTMENTS WILL IMPROVE THE BAND PROGRAMS AND CONSEQUENTLY GROW THE BANDS AND INCREASE FUTURE INCOME.
