THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO ENSURE A VIBRANT COMMUNITY SPACE DEDICATED TO THE JOY OF READING, THE DISCOVERY OF IDEAS, AND THE POWER OF INFORMATION BY OWNING, OPERATING AND MAINTAINING THE LIBRARY BUILDING AND GROUNDS. THE FACILITIES WERE DONATED BY THE PEOPLE OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND IN 1961 AND CONTINUE TO BE FUNDED BY CONTRIBUTIONS RAISED THROUGH EFFORTS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. THE LIBRARY IS OPERATED BY KITSAP REGIONAL LIBRARY, A SEPARATE INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION, WHICH PROVIDES MATERIALS, STAFF, AND TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT.

BAINBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY (BPL) PROVIDED A WELCOMING LIBRARY SPACE FOR OVER 200,000 VISITORS IN 2018. BPL PROVIDED THE BUILDING AND GROUNDS REQUIRED MAINTENANCE, REPAIRS, AND UTILITIES.THE MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT IN 2018 WAS THE CONTINUED UPGRADING OF THE LIBRARY FACILITY WITH A COMPLETELY NEW HVAC SYSTEM WITH IMPROVED ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SUITABLE REFRIGERANT. IN ADDITION, A PROFESSIONAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE PLAN WITH IDENTIFIED PROJECTS AND TIMING WAS DEVELOPED AND THE FIRST STEP TO REMOVE DRY ROT FROM THE LIBRARY ROOF SYSTEM WAS STARTED. IN 2018 THE EXPANDED PUBLIC MEETING ROOM WAS BOOKED FOR MORE COMMUNITY USE AS WELL AS LIBRARY PROGRAMS, FULFILLING ONE OF THE GOALS OF THE 2017 REFRESH PROJECT. THE CYNTHIA HARRISON LIBRARY SCHOLARSHIP FUND PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR STAFF OR LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS TO ADVANCE THEIR PROFESSIONAL CAREERS IN LIBRARIANSHIP.THE INTERIOR OF THE IHLAND WAY BUILDING WAS UPGRADED FOR RESIDENTIAL TENANT OCCUPANCY.
