THE HARRISON MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION WAS INCORPORATED AS A 501(c)(3), TAX-EXEMPT, CHARITABLE FOUNDATION IN 1986 TO SERVE AS THE OFFICIAL GIFT-RECEIVING AND GIFT-ADMINISTRATION AGENCY FOR HARRISON MEDICAL CENTER. In FY19 Harrison Medical Center Foundation's 3-member staff and 5-member Board of Trustees raised funds through annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, special events, and corporate/foundation grants to help fund health care programs, projects and community outreach service offered by the hospital. The Foundation's FY 2019 fund-raising events for Harrison Medical Center included, Mathis Guild spring fundraiser and the Violet E. Carlson Table Top Christmas. In FY 19, the Harrison Medical Center Foundation raised $702,139 from 672 donors and at the same time, disbursed over $1.6 million back into the community through its support of Harrison Medical Center's nonprofit health care services. Providing quality health care for all who need it, regardless of ability to pay, is an important part of the Harrison Medical Center's mission as well as that of the Foundation. The Foundation assists Harrison Medical Center in providing care for the poor by encouraging its donors to contribute to gifts the Small Favors Fund, which provides clothing, transportation, and medical supplies for patients who don't have money to pay for these things themselves. The Harrison Medical Center Foundation funds a nurse residency program, which provides an extensive 18 week education program for recently hired nurses to provide further education on the latest health care research developments and medical techniques. The Foundation awarded $29,430 in scholarship funding for 12 community nurses in the Kitsap Peninsula pursuing advanced nursing degrees. Financial assistance is used to help them improve their professional training in order to provide the best possible care for their patients. Last year, our Employee Giving Club continued to distribute financial assistance to employees in need through Emergency Assistance funding and the Fred Meyer gift card program. In FY 2019, the Foundation distributed funds to hospital services and programs to benefit staff and patients including: - The Northwest Washington Family Medicine Residency Program - a community-based residency program that will help create a pipeline of new primary care providers to care for our region. - Continued education and specialty certification support was provided to staff across Harrison supporting the culture of continued growth and development, ensuring exceptional health care for us all. - Potentially life-saving diagnostic screenings were provided to under-insured or uninsured women through our Woman's Health Screening Fund. - Support of the Benedict House to provide respite care and transportation coordination for patients in their follow up care. - Capital purchases in support of innovative patient care technology such as Hypothermia Unit and TAVR Planning Module. In FY2019 the Foundation awarded over $30,000 in the Spirit of Harrison employee giving grants to support patient and family support services including spiritual care literature and take-home scales for Heart Failure clinic patients.
