Summer camping program - Camp Leo held a total of four summer camp sessions in 2018, hosting early 300 campers with type 1 diabetes attended, in grades 3 through 12. Camp Leo is the only overnight camp in Western Washington that is dedicated to exclusively providing this experience for children with diabetes. We are also the only overnight diabetes camping program in Western Washington that incorporates diabetes education activities into our programming at camp. Children have the opportunity to cultivate the characteristics that position them for success and healthy lives. They learn responsibility through making decisions and working with counselors and health care providers on individual learning and diabetes management goals. They experience the value of cooperation in activities that require teamwork they gain courage, confidence, and acceptance as they acquire new skills and meet others.
