The Organization works to build an inclusive and fair economy that meets the needs of communities of color and low-income communities by ensuring that banks and other corporations invest and conduct business in our communities in a just and equitable manner. The organization achieved the following results in 2018:Evaluated banks performance in meeting their obligations under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) to secure the delivery of affordable credit and responsible financial services for low-income communities and communities of color, conducted annual meetings between banks doing business in California and CRC members;Advocated at the Federal, State and Local levels for policies that regulate bank practices and protect consumers from unscrupulous lending and predatory financial products and services, including payday lending and fines and fees; and ensuring that immigrant families have access to safe, affordable bank accounts. Launched two new initiatives: CRCs Here to Stay initiative to promote economic opportunity and financial security for immigrant families and CRCs Anti-Displacement Campaign to address the practice bank of displacement financing that pushes low-income tenants out of affordable housing. Conducted and published four policy research reports to support CRC campaigns, including Here to Stay: Promoting Financial Security and Economic Opportunity for Immigrants in California, Building Immigrant Financial Security: A Guide for Banks, Disrupting Displacement Financing in Oakland and Beyond, and Unholy Alliance: California Courts Use of Private Debt Collectors.Educated and informed policy makers, regulators, and the general public on issues that affect the economic well-being of low-income California residents served by CRC members, including publishing Op-Eds and press releases, outreach to state and national media, and presenting at state and national conferences. Hosted three annual community events in Oakland, Los Angeles, and Sacramento to recognize the dedication and work of community heroes and celebrate CRC members, partners and community stakeholders.
