Friends of the Rivers: Celebrating Fort Wayne's rivers as a source of recreation, community engagement and economic development. Friends of the Rivers is dedicated to enhancing the community's appreciation, experience, and use of the rivers. The organization provides river cruises aboard a 54-foot canal boat modeled after an authentic 1840's canal boat beginning in 2017. The 1840's-style, flat bottom boat will allow individuals to experience the rivers and the potential they offer for development, recreation, and educational programming.

Friends of the Rivers, Inc. provided 3,171 guests the opportunity to tour our rivers on a replica canal boat. During the 2018 operating season, Friends of the Rivers, Inc. offered 55 public tours (a 96% increase over 2017), and 19 private tours (a 90% increase over 2017). Ridership increased 2.6 times over prior year. Our educational tours kicked off in 2018, offering second, third, fourth, eighth grades and all abilities classrooms the opportunity to learn about Fort Wayne regional history and the three rivers. 24 educational tours were offered during 2018. A third and fourth grade education curriculum was established during 2018 based on Indiana state standards involving history, geography and economic standards. Additional curriculums are being developed for other grade levels.
