During its 36th year (2017-2018), our Pulaski Street prevention/education program directly served over 850 fifth and sixth grade students, a total of 31 classes each month for eight months. A pre-post test given at the conclusion of the 2-year drug and alcohol prevention program demonstrated highly statistically significant outcomes. That is, students clearly demonstrated increased knowledge and understanding of the material, including risk factors and refusal skills, which were directly related to participation in the program. The program concluded with the 33rd annual say no to drugs march in which over 1,100 students, teacher, dignitaries and community members were in attendance. In addition, CAP social workers provided weekly peer leadership training to over 80 high school and middle school students to teach the monthly Pulaski Street prevention/education program. CAP also provided monthly training to 25 community volunteers to teach the program. Peer leaders either assisted the volunteers or the more experienced peer leaders each month. CAP also provided a two-day summer workshop for over 40 additional incoming middle school peer leaders with high school peer leaders who facilitated activities and a full day alcohol workshop.
