The mission of Student Advocacy is to provide an effective voice for children who face significant obstacles in school, so they receive the resources they need to succeed educationally and rediscover their lives.

The Overcoming the Odds (OTO) Project and Awards Programs provides services for at-risk youth to help them overcome obstacles to their education, stay in school and graduate. Youth served include children in foster care, children with limited proficiency in English, dropouts, youth with a history of academic failures or attendance problems. Student Advocacy provided educational advocacy services to 420 youths successfully improving school services for 387. In addition, the OTO Awards Program honored 18 youths who made school a priority despite significant obstacles. Four were honored and presented with scholarships at the OTO Awards Dinner. 14 were honored and presented with financial awards at a special reception.
