Third Street Music School Settlement provides high-quality music and dance education through on-site, public school, and community programs, as well as an arts-infused preschool, to New Yorkers of all ages, regardless of background, artistic ability, or economic circumstance. Third Street’s programs are taught by exceptional faculty in an environment that nurtures individual achievement and creativity, affording students the opportunity to reach their full artistic potential while developing a life-long love of the arts.

Instruction (see schedule O). Instruction - As the nation's longest-running community music school, Third Street provides high-quality music and dance instruction to students of all ages, levels, and backgrounds. Our programs serve children in grades pre-K through 12 with weekly after-school/weekend instruction in most instruments and voice; music theory and composition; performance training and ensemble activities; and dance. Early childhood programs include a licensed preschool and classes in music and movement. Adult programs offer flexible music lessons, free daytime access to practice studios, tap classes, and ensemble/performance activities including New Horizons bands for older adults. In 2018-19, music and dance school enrollment totaled 1,973, including 660 students from partnering public schools who participated in free or highly discounted arts instruction. Third Street's overall student population, including those served through New York City public schools and community centers, reflects the ethnic and economic diversity of our community: 27% Hispanic, 30% Caucasian, 22% Asian, 14% African, and 7% other. More than 75% of all students served receive some form of need-based financial aid or subsidies for their instruction.
