Mission

The YMCA challenges people to live the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County is part of an open, inclusive interfaith movement which advocates Christian principles through programs that build character, respond to community needs and help build spirit, mind, and body for all. Membership is open to everyone. Programs serve a secular purpose. The Y never requires people to take part in religious activities, nor does it use third party funds for religious purposes. YMCA work focuses on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

About

Youth development - The Kingston & Ulster County YMCA extends its leadership in nurturing the potential of youth in Ulster County through our before & after school programs in Marlboro, Highland, New Paltz, Kerhonkson, Marbletown, and Kingston. Programs in these community elementary schools offer a range of opportunity for social, physical and emotional growth, with activities such as arts and crafts, various indoor and outdoor ball games, aquatics, outdoor activities, and playground time. Participant enrollment is based on a fee structure with subsidies available from the YMCA. Subsidies cover over 30 daily participants by effective use of community donations, grants and support payments from the County Department of Social Services, the County Youth Bureau, United Way and local fund raisers. These YMCA fund raisers involve many volunteers and include our annual Pro-Am golf tournament, our annual Strong Kids solicitation, annual dinner, annual indoor triathlon and the Kids Classic running event. Our summer day camps served over 650 children during ten weeks of the summer. During these full days of outdoor enrichment, campers and counselors were active with song, skits, ball games, arts and crafts, archery, swimming and canoe/kayaking. Campers were assigned to their camp 'villages' by age, and since enrollments represented a very broad demographic from many areas of Ulster County, we are delighted to subjectively report very favorable growth in the area of campers socialization skills.
