About

Youth development: The YMCA is a leader in nurturing the potential of every child and teen. Every day, the YMCA helps young people deepen positive values, their commitment to service, and their motivation to learn. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Our YMCA programs, such as Jump-Start Preschool, Center Street Child Care, UPK, After School, Gymnastics, Youth Fitness, Swim Lessons and Youth Sports offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. In 2018, the Oneonta Y was chosen to host the NY State YMCA Gymnastics Meet, which was held at SUNY Oneonta and hosted over 200 gymnasts. The YMCA provided programming to 849 youth and teen members and an additional 374 through program only. All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of people who care about them and believe in their potential. Keeping kids active and involved is part of our mission and 420 kids participated in Y Day Camps, 246 kids attended Pre K and 84 kids participated in before and after school care, 415 played in Y Youth Leagues and 107 kids competed in our Y Swim and Gymnastics teams, and 100 kids participated in Junior Firefighter Camp. The Y works closely with DSS so that we can enable those requiring subsidies and direct financial assistance the opportunity to participate in developmental programming that would otherwise not be available. In 2018 the Oneonta Family YMCA awarded $37,650 in memberships and programming assistance.
