Guided by a resident-driven community economic development plan approved in 2011 and then updated and again adopted in 2018 by Mansfield City Council, NECIC works to improve the quality of life for residents living in census tracts 6 & 7, and 16 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. In 2018 the organization added two additional areas of focus - health & safety. Through organizing, convening and leadership development, the organization coordinates & supports nearly 15 community gardens throughout Richland County, a weekly North End Farmers Market from June-October, a community toolshed (tool lending library), & on-going programming for youth & elder community residents. NECIC focuses heavily on the elimination of blight in the target area & conducts assessments of housing stock, the targeted economic base, & other planning activities, & provides training in workforce development, asset based community development & bridges out of poverty.
