OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN YOUNG AND OLD, EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS TO SERVE AND STRENGTHEN ONE ANOTHER IN A DIVERSE, FAITH-BASED, GREEN COMMUNITY. SENIORS AND FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN LIVING AT LOW SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS HELP WHILE BEING HELPED. THE COMPLETED MODEL WILL INCLUDE ASSISTED AND INDEPENDENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING, INDOOR AND OUTDOOR COMMUNITY SPACE AND ON-SITE SERVICES. THIS PIONEERING MODEL EMBRACES CONCEPTS NOW OUTLINED BY THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION'S COMMISSION ON SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH FRAMEWORK AND SOCIAL CAPITAL THEORY. IN BRIEF, HEALTH IS A HOLISTIC CONCEPT THAT IS AFFECTED BY FAR MORE THAN OUR BIOLOGY. PEOPLE NEED SAFETY, PURPOSE AND BELONGING AS MUCH AS THEY NEED INCOME, FOOD AND SHELTER. About
HOPE & A FUTURE CURRENTLY OPERATES A LICENSED ADULT FAMILY HOME (AFH) THAT PROVIDES CARE TO OLDER ADULTS WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF DIAGNOSES. OUR PIONEERING MODEL INCLUDES A LIVE-IN REGISTERED NURSE AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST AS WELL AS HANDS ON CARE GIVERS WHO RECEIVE ROOM AND BOARD IN EXCHANGE FOR HELPING WITH EVENING AND WEEKEND HOURS. THIS MODEL GIVES SENIORS A STABLE STAFF AND LOW-INCOME WAGE EARNERS A STABLE HOME IN THE CONTEXT OF A FAMILY OF FRIENDS. IN 2018 HOPE & A FUTURE WON A BEST OF MADISON AWARD FOR ASSISTED/RETIREMENT LIVING. OUR AFH IS HOME TO SENIOR RESIDENTS, STAFF, AND SOMETIMES THE STAFF'S CHILDREN. AGE RANGES HAVE GONE FROM 2 MONTHS TO 102 YEARS! STAFF AND RESIDENTS ENJOY GOAL-DIRECTED LIVING AND THE SUPPORT OF EACH OTHER. THE HEALTH OF OLDER ADULTS IMPROVES EVEN IN THE FACE OF ADVANCING DISEASE AND DEMENTIA. RESIDENTS REMAIN INTERACTIVE AND VIBRANT. WHEN END OF LIFE COMES, WE WORK WITH HOSPICE ALLOWING RESIDENTS TO REMAIN WITH THEIR FAMILY OF FRIENDS. HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS HELP EACH YEAR WITH GARDENS AND MAINTENANCE OF OUR FIVE AND A HALF ACRES OF WOODED PROPERTY. VOLUNTEERS HELP US GROW FRESH FOOD FOR MEALS AND EXCESS FOOD GOES TO VOLUNTEERS AND A LOCAL FOOD PANTRY. HOPE & A FUTURE HOSTS EVENTS OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY INCLUDING A MONTHLY POTLUCK AND MUSIC, INTERGENERATIONAL MOVIE NIGHT AND DISCUSSION AND VOLUNTEER WORK AND SWIM EVENTS.
