Youthboard program: We use the philanthropic process as a vehicle to engage our participants in an experiential leadership development curriculum. There are three major stages to each program year. 1) Each youthboard composed of 15 students conducts a community needs assessment to identify the most pressing issues facing youth in their community today. 2) Participants create and implement a fundraising plan. Meanwhile, nonprofits submit grant applications. 3) Grant-making: The youthboard analyzes these grant applications and awards the money from their fundraising efforts to the selected nonprofits. Embedded in this philanthropic process is a leadership development curriculum that helps participants learn about and utilize a variety of skills in topics such as leadership, strengths, teamwork, personalities and passions. Through the different stages of the philanthropic process, the youthboard members practice the skills they learned in the curriculum.
