Mission

The McGaw YMCA is a cause-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and strengthening Evanston, Illinois and our neighboring communities. The McGaw YMCA is an open, charitable membership association that promotes growth in spirit, mind, and body through programs and services for all. Through a wide-range of programs in the three core areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility, we seek to: • Maximize the potential of all youth, • Improve health outcomes and decrease chronic disease throughout the Y's service area, and • Address issues of inequality and engage in collective impact. For more than a century, the McGaw YMCA has been an essential community asset, convening partners, providing programs, and being a voice for Evanston's future. The McGaw YMCA has 12,000 family, adult, children, and senior members and serves thousands more individuals every year through youth and family programs volunteer opportunities, and employment. The McGaw Y is truly one of the few places in Evanston where the entire community comes together in one place. We engage over 6,000 youth annually in high-quality programs that instill in them independence, perseverance, honesty, and respect for themselves and their peers. The McGaw YMCA promotes self-discovery, experiential learning, and character development among the children we serve. From six-week old infants to high school seniors, participants in McGaw YMCA's youth programs are given the support to grow, learn, and thrive. The McGaw YMCA's vision is to be Evanston's lead collaborative partner in strengthening community. Our work and relationships are centered on five core values: 1. Caring: We demonstrate sincere concern for others, their needs and wellbeing. 2. Honesty: We tell the truth and demonstrate reliability and trustworthiness. 3. Respect: We treat others as we would want to be treated and value the worth of every person. 4. Responsibility: We do what is right and are accountable for our choices and actions.

About

HEALTHY LIVING McGaw YMCA is a leading voice on health and well-being. We bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun, and shared interests. McGaw had over 4,250 people attend one of our 105 exercise classes. Our swim, sports, and play programs reach over 2,400 children and adults annually through group and private lessons. The YZone program combines sports and academics to help youth reach their full potential. We provide health screenings and access to wellness programs to over 170 men which have residences at our YMCA. As a result of our programs over 12,500 members and another 8,000 participants in our community are receiving the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind, and body. This is particularly important as our national struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels. Last year, we provided $132,264 in financial assistance to people who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate.
