About

2018 AchievementsAt Piyali (PACE) Learning Center - PLC We introduced new and more specialized vocational training courses like Bakery and Beauty Parlor for our student who passed the X Grade public exam and whose academic potentials are limited. The arrival of Spring was celebrated with the Spring Festival, packed with songs, music, dance and yoga, presented by students, their mothers in our Adult Literacy Program (ALP) & Vocational Training (VT) programs and the teachers. In another function, the ALP/VT women presented a Cultural Program all by themselves, dancing and singing like seasoned artists. A first-ever dream trip to the USA was arranged for three senior students and from all accounts, they stole the hearts of everyone they interacted with in the US with their grace, poise, knowledge and charm. Four Girl Scouts from France visited Piyali Learning Centre and loved every moment they spent with our girls, playing, teaching cooking, interacting, speaking about their land and culture and learning about ours. Close Circuit Television and Cameras were installed in the school buildings and campus to ensure Better monitoring and security. A dental camp was arranged for the students as part of our health care programs. Our Interact Club members celebrated the World Earth Day by sharing audio-visual clippings and the other students made posters highlighting some of the serious threats to the environment today, like Global Warming and Waste Management. Students took the initiative to raise funds for the victims of the floods in Kerala, going door to door, visiting homes, shops and schools. Our spirited girls participated in an under-18 inter-school football tournament and played with a lot of zeal to earn praise and awards. The Annual Achievement Awards once again went a long way in reinforcing the perseverance and confidence of the students to march on towards a better and brighter tomorrow. Another successful fundraising event Bollywood Night 2.0 was staged on April 29, 2018 by the PACE Universal Board of Directors with the help of a volunteer committee netting $44,503 for the organization. In addition to cash net revenue stated above, the Board members were able to solicit $11,793 in-kind donation to stage the event. In addition to the above fundraising event the Founder/Chair participated as a speaker at innumerable occasions generating $120,000+ revenue for the organization. PACE Universal in coordination with the Rotary Club of Calcutta Metropolitan and PLC staff were able to conduct another successful annual trip of US high school students and adult visitors. The following are some of the feedback received by PACE Universal in response to their experience at PLCFrom Rotary District 5150 Governor Jayne Hulbert: The school is beautiful. As Gene said after the somewhat treacherous ride through Piyali Junction, PLC is an oasis! Beautifully landscaped grounds, great fruits and vegetables happily growing, and everything well maintained. The cultural presentation was terrific. All in all, it was a wonderful time at PLC. We now understand your passion for PLC and changing the girls lives. We now share your passion for PLC.From one of the original supporters of PLC Robert McKay:In that age-old concept that you travel around the world and your most important discoveries turn out to be about yourself, I got some good lessons from this trip. Watching you people run a nonprofit is a lesson in perfection. I am inspired to do a better on my work in Seattle.Thank you.Bob McKayFrom Mrs. Bohnet Mother of US student Lukas Bohnet:Lukas and I had an amazing time with you - so many memories were created - its a bit overwhelming just thinking about it - seems like a whirlwind of activity and emotions making it hard to pinpoint how this has or will change me. You have created an amazing place for girls - Im hopeful you will have an opportunity to duplicate in other environments - if not, know you have been an angel for so many young ladies and you have done well.
