About

Good Jobs 4 All Campaign:This year GJ4A won a precedent setting victory! GJ4A supports workers in our communities who face multiple barriers to employment including individuals who are formerly incarcerated, homeless or formerly homeless, transgender, immigrants, veterans or people with disabilities on a career path to good jobs. In August, JwJ signed a community benefits agreement with the developer of a 290-room hotel in SoMa with exceptionally strong hiring goals: the hotel will aim to hire SoMa residents into 40% of entry-level jobs, and target workers (regardless of where they live) into 70% of entry-level positions. We also won critical steps to help our people get in the door and have a chance to build their careers with two precedent-setting victories: guaranteed interviews for qualified workers, and goals for employee retention and promotion. We also got the developer to put their money where their mouth is by contributing $300,000 to workforce training for our community members. Bay Resistance:We continued to lead Bay Resistance, a cross-sector network of over 50 diverse organizations that we founded to defend from attacks from Trump. In the face of intensifying attacks on immigrants, we fought to pass a clean DREAM Act and to save Temporary Protected Status. Responding to waves of local workplace audits and ICE raids, we organized rapid actions with hundreds of people. We supported local families facing deportations and actions that helped close the Richmond immigrant detention center. We helped defend our California sanctuary state laws from the Trump administration, while leading community trainings with workers, businesses and neighbors on how to build a sanctuary neighborhood on the grassroots level. We supported a powerful May Day march for immigrant and workers rights with door-to-door outreach and art making. We gave people opportunities and training to become activists themselves, activating volunteers for voter education from SF to Modesto and training 500 people with the skills to take action.Labor for Climate Justice:This year Jobs with Justice joined the leadership team of the Peoples Climate Movement to create a strong labor presence in the biggest West Coast climate mobilization in history: Rise for Climate, Jobs and Justice. Together with leaders from Bay Area unions, we built a labor contingent and painted a labor mural as part of a massive street painting that envisioned a better climate future - where workers have good, union jobs in green economy. United for Housing JusticeWe co-led a unique coalition that unites affordable housing developers, tenants advocates, labor and faith groups to work towards a comprehensive solution to the deepening housing crisis. We trained representatives from 16 different organizations on narrative strategy to help us develop a winning and cohesive narrative for housing justice, and are continuing to build cross-sector communication strategy. This fall, we held a press event to bring together Yes on C and Yes on 10, connecting homelessness and renters issues. And in our unique role as Jobs with Justice, we engaged labor groups and activists to support Prop 10, statewide reform for real rent control.Coalition Building and Strategic CampaignsWe convened and supported labor and community coalitions around issues critical to working families. Close the Gap brings together teachers and parents to support quality public schools. The Care Council connects senior, disability rights, domestic and homecare workers fighting for dignified care and work. The Healthy California campaign is committed to universal access to healthcare. We continue to enforce the landmark community benefits agreement we won with Sutter CPMC. We co-chaired the Budget Justice coalition.
