The Arundel Rivers Federation uses science, restoration and community action to make the South, West and Rhode Rivers cleaner and healthier. We envision clean, fishable, swimmable waterways for our local communities. The Federation is dedicated to protecting, preserving, restoring and enhancing the waters of the South River, Rhode River, West River, Herring Bay, and is a member of the Waterkeeper Alliance, Inc.

RESTORATION OF THE SOUTH RIVER: 1) INSTALLATION OF STREAM AND WETLAND RESTORATION PROJECTS TO MITIGATE STORMWATER IMPACTS, CREATE HABITAT, AND RESTORE ECOSYSTEM FUNCTION OF THE RIVERS TRIBUTARIES; 2) CREATION OF LIVING SHORELINE PROJECTS, THROUGH THE REMOVAL OF BULKHEAD OR REVETMENT, OR INSTALLATION OF MINIMALLY-STRUCTURAL PRACTICES TO ENSURE THE INTEGRITY OF THE INTER-TIDAL INTERFACE; 3) GROWING AND PLANTING OYSTERS ON SANCTUARY BARS IN THE SOUTH RIVER. SOUTH RIVERKEEPER: A FULL-TIME SENTINEL OF THE RIVER WHO CONDUCTS REGULAR MONITORING OF THE RIVER FOR BACTERIA AND WATER QUALITY AND WHO WORKS WITH REGULATORY AGENCIES TO ENFORCE RESOURCE PROTECTION LAWS PREVENTING POLLUTION.EDUCATION & OUTREACH TO PROMOTE STEWARDSHIP OF THE RIVER THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE FORUMS FOR RESIDENTS, REGULAR PRINTED AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS, AND ACTIVITIES PROMOTING THE HEALTH OF THE RIVER. PROTECT MEANS TO VALUE AND RESPECT THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, INCLUDING THE RIVER AND THE LIVING RESOURCES THAT DEPEND UPON IT. THE FEDERATION REVIEWS LAND USE PLANS, ADVOCATES FOR STRONG LAWS AND REGULATIONS AND IDENTIFIES AND STOPS SOURCES OF POLLUTION.
