Founded in 1986 and incorporated in 1995 as Dova, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, Doug Varone and Dancers was established to explore and advance Varone's choreographic vision of capturing the nuances of human interaction through movement. The creation, performance and touring of new dance works are the primary activities of the company; our education and outreach activities reach professional and pre-professional dancers and seek to improve dance literacy in the general public.

Since 1986, Dova has created over 80 dances, taught over 2,500 students, and brought award-winning dances to tens of thousands of fans in over 125 cities around the world. The creation, performance, and touring of new dance works are the primary activities of the company. Our education and outreach activities reach professional and pre-professional dancers and seek to improve dance literacy in the general public. Because of the outstanding quality of our outreach, the company is among the most sought-after ambassadors for dance. Each year we create one new dance work, remount and rehearse repertory work, tour to a dozen venues, and often produce a New York City performance.
