It is a vital part of the arts on the Lehman College campus and serves as a center for creative learning and cultural exploration.
About
In 2018-19, the center served over 189,000 audience members through 25 cultural performances, over 60 community-based events (rentals) and 17 high school graduations. Rentals included such performances as Albanian Arts Festival, Dance Theater of Harlem, Bronx Arts Festival, Education through Music, children's performances by national organizations such as Theater-Works USA and Arts on Stage. Cultural performances ranged from salsa concerts to symphony orchestras, Chinese acrobats to classical ballet companies, representing the U.S, Puerto Rico, China, Mexico, South Africa, Dominican Republic, Russia, Cuba, Israel, Ireland, Columbia, and Spain. Eleven of these events featured $10 tickets for children 12 and under in prime orchestra location. Among the artists presented were Mambo Legends starring Gilberto Santa Rosa, Olga Tanon, Compania Flamenca from Spain, Eddie Palmieri and Lalo Rodriguez, Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, Jose Feliciano, Soweto Gospel Choir from South Africa, the Russian National Ballet, Los Van Van from Cuba, and numerous others. The season's major accomplishments included the continuation of the successful Latino concert series, which featured sixteen major events and highlighted the rich culture of the Bronx's Latino population. The center also continued extensive media partnerships that spread its reach to millions of New Yorkers, in addition to a national audience for several concerts broadcast on satellite radio. The center also finished its $15.4 million renovation project that included installation of brand new seating in the auditorium. The entire renovation project included an attractive new main entrance, glass-encased lobby, added restroom facilities and elevator. The project was designed to expand the existing lobby and interior to comply with American with Disability Act (ADA) standards, and was completed in the fall of 2019.
