PS Science, originally a program of Crossroads Community Outreach Foundation, Inc. (CCOF) which was formed as a separate 501(c)(3) by Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in 2004 to share resources with underserved schools in the greater Los Angeles community, absorbed the 501(c)(3) in June 2017 in order to focus all efforts on bringing rich STEM programs to under-served elementary schools.

Science LessonsDuring the 2018 2019 year, PS Science was able to succeed in its mission to bring weekly hands-on science lessons to 9 Title 1 schools serving approximately 2000 students in low-income elementary schools. Throughout the school year, 78 classrooms received 90 science lessons weekly that provided these students opportunities to practice science skills such as observing, measuring, problem solving, testing and revising, analyzing data and forming conclusions. Each student received approximately 2790 minutes of science education.During the 2018-19 year PS Science provided PS Science Instructors who partnered with 78 Los Angeles area classroom teachers in delivering weekly science lessons. The PS Science Instructor served as a model and mentor for the classroom teacher, providing training in inquiry-based science instruction. Each classroom teacher received 50 hours of one-on-one inquiry science Professional Development in leading inquiry science lessons. The teachers overwhelmingly reported increased confidence and new skills in teaching science.
