About

North Valley Health Center (NVHC) is a 12-bed acute care health center located in Warren, MN. Our major program service is to provide quality medical services that are accessible to all communities we service. Included in the program services are inpatient and swing bed care, a full-time emergency room, various outpatient services, and family practice clinic where care is provided regardless of a patient's ability to pay for the services provided. North Valley Health Center also provides public health services for Marshall County. During 2018, North Valley Health Center's Acute Care Health Center experienced an increase in patient days. Continued on Schedule O.Acute inpatient days increased 55 days and acute swing-bed days increased 127 days for a total increase of 182 days. Our full-time emergency room provided care to 1,441 patients, which was an increase of 163 patients over the prior year.Within the Rural Health Clinic, NVHC operated with a Physician, two Physician Assistants, and two Nurse Practitioners experiencing similar totals in clinic visits from the prior year. Our family practice clinic saw 7,076 patients in 2018 compared to 7,016 patients in 2017.In 2018, North Valley Health Center provided $45,026 worth of charity care based on established rates of charges foregone. Total direct and indirect costs related to these foregone charges was approximately $36,000 based on an average of ratios of cost to gross charges.NVHC completed its second Community Health Needs Assessment in 2016 which complemented the strategic plan established in 2013. Three goals were determined to help the facility accomplish our mission and vision statements:Goal 1 - Improve Access to Care by conducting an assessment to determine the need for another medical provider and continue to provide financial counseling education and area transportation. In 2018, NVHC continues to search for another medical provider noting it has been difficult due to our rural location. Financial counseling education and area transportation also continue to be looked at to determine best practices.Goal 2 - Improve Mental Health Access by reviewing mental health services in the region and discuss opportunities for working together with other mental health services providers in the region. In 2018, meetings were held with various leaders in our community as well as outside communities to determine how to address the mental health issues. Consensus from the meetings was to wait and see what funding opportunities would be provided by the State of MN.Goal 3 - Improve Obesity issues by providing education to the public through forums and other methods and working with other service providers in the region to address the issue. Also work with our internal staff on improving communication with our patients on their weight status. Educational forums focusing on weight loss and diabetic education were held for community members in 2018.
