The Foundation Works To Ensure Youth Have Equal Access To Education And High Level Job Training - Resulting In A Thriving Local Economy. IN 2018, THE LA CHAMBER FOUNDATION SUCCESSFULLY PROVIDED MORE THAN 2,000 YOUTH FROM UNDERSERVED LOS ANGELES COMMUNITIES WITH JOB SKILLS WORKSHOPS AND WORK READINESS CERTIFICATES, AS WELL AS ENTRY-LEVEL JOBS AND PAID INTERNSHIPS. IN ADDITION, THE L.A. CASH FOR COLLEGE PROGRAM SERVED 8,500 STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED THE COLLEGE AND CAREER CONVENTION AND AN ADDITIONAL 1,900 STUDENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS AT THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY NIGHT. OVER 4,500 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN ONE OF 150 FINANCIAL AID COMPLETION WORKSHOPS THROUGHOUT LOS ANGELES, EARNING $35 MILLION IN FREE STATE AND FEDERAL AID FOR COLLEGE. THE BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAM CONNECTED 2,700 LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS AT SIX CAREER PATHWAY HIGH SCHOOLS TO INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS AT VARIOUS WORK-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, INCLUDING CAREER FAIRS, CLASSROOM SPEAKING EVENTS, CAREER PANELS, WORKSITE VISITS, PATHWAY GROUP PROJECT COMPETITIONS, AND INTERNSHIPS. LASTLY, THE BIXEL EXCHANGE'S TECH ED PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM FACILITATED MORE THAN TWO DOZEN COMPANY PARTNERSHIPS AS PART OF THE LA HI-TECH CONSORTIUM.THE LA CHAMBER FOUNDATION CONTINUED TO SUPPORT BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT ON EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT POLICY ISSUES IN FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL FORUMS. IN PARTICULAR, WE SUPPORTED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A BROAD-BASED COALITION, INCLUDING L.A. BUSINESS LEADERS, TO CHAMPION EARLY LEARNING. FOR THE SECOND TIME SINCE 2008, CALIFORNIA EXPANDED FUNDING FOR EARLY LEARNING (AN INCREASE OF $56 MILLION FROM PRIOR YEAR), RESULTING IN 9,200 NEW PRESCHOOL SLOTS AND 6,800 NEW INFANT AND TODDLER SLOTS. FURTHER, WE ENGAGED THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY IN SMART JUSTICE ISSUES, ORGANIZING A VISIT TO L.A. MEN'S CENTRAL JAIL AND AN EMPLOYER FORUM, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE NATIONAL EMPLOYMENT LAW PROJECT AND THE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION TO EDUCATE BUSINESS LEADERS ON HIRING FORMERLY-INCARCERATED WORKERS AND REMOVING BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT.
